With no further ado, I’ve set sail to check and compare Bing’s search results, instead of using the type of searches most search engines will prepare themselves for, I’ve decided to go for a little ego search.

And here are the results:

Bing:
1. FriendFeed profile page - 1
2. FriendFeed post - ½
3. LinkedIn directory - ½
4. Completely unrelated - 0
5. Completely unrelated - 0
6. Orli Yakuel’s following page on SoundCloud - ½
7. Completely unrelated - 0
8. Completely unrelated - 0
9. TheNextWeb.com post on which I never commented - 0
10. A page with my name that is not related to me - 1

One noticeable bug is that the page returns only 9 results instead of the configured 10 = -1

TOTAL SCORE: 2½

Google:
1. FriendFeed profile page - 1
2. FriendFeed post - ½
3. FaceBook profile page - 1
4. White Pages - 1
5. rssmeme.com - 1
6. TechMount Blog post - ½
7. FriendFeed profile page through proxy - ½
8. TechMount Blog post - ½
9. Comment on ReadWriteWeb - ½
10. Comment on TheNextWeb - ½

GOOGLE TOTAL SCORE: 7

Clearly Google wins in that match, but it is important to remember that Bing is only in the very early stages of it’s public beta. And regardless of the poor results in this specific search it does a fair enough job to become a serious competitor to Google.

When you need to image on your Windows Vista or Windows 7, but do not want to install one of the huge application bundles that enable such mounts, you can use a little free utility called Virtual CloneDrive.

Virtual CloneDrive mounts most common disk image types such as ISO, CCD, DVD, IMG, UDF and BIN. Once it’s installed mounting a disk image is as simple as double-clicking the image file.

The two major advantages of Virtual CloneDrive is it’s size and simple of use. The application is very small and have a very small footprint on your system. It is as easy to use as any built in Windows function and requires no technical knowledge to use and operate, it does it’s job without overbearing.

If you already use applications such as Daemon-Tools, Alcohol 120%, UltraISO or others, there is probably no reason to switch, but if you want an application that doesn’t have any overhead (such as adware or virtual drivers) and simple to use, Virtual CloneDrive is the better choice.

Installation is very simple after you downloaded the installation file and decided if you want to associate the images file extensions. Once the installation is complete, you should be able to mount image files by just double-clicking on the file. You can also right-click on the virtual cd-rom drive to mount or unmount an image.

You can use Twitter to get the latest scoop on current events as well as topical interests.

35 Online Tools That Make Your Freelance Career Easier - Over the years the appeal of freelancing has grown tremendously. Some are drawn to freelancing to enjoy the freedom of choosing their own work hours, some as a way to stay ahead during times of recession. Today, there are many individuals on the web pursuing their career as a freelancer. Bloggers, web designers, social media strategists and many others have found that freelancing is a great way to utilize their skills and sell their services through the wonderful medium we call the internet.

Why text messages are limited to 160 characters - Alone in a room in his home in Bonn, Germany, Friedhelm Hillebrand sat at his typewriter, tapping out random sentences and questions on a sheet of paper. As he went along, Hillebrand counted the number of letters, numbers, punctuation marks and spaces on the page. Each blurb ran on for a line or two and nearly always clocked in under 160 characters. That became Hillebrand’s magic number — and set the standard for one of today’s most popular forms of digital communication: text messaging.

Mozilla ponders policy change after Firefox extension battle - The NoScript Firefox extension faced a major backlash last week when users discovered that it was surreptitiously disrupting the operation of AdBlock Plus. The developers behind the two extensions turned the browser into a battleground as their conflict escalated. Mozilla has responded by proposing a new policy that sets boundaries for appropriate extension behavior.

During that time, however, researchers were able to gain a glimpse into the kind of information the botnet gathers as well as the behavior of Internet users who are prone to malware infections.

How Kevin Bacon sparked a new branch of science - The theory that everyone in the world is six friendships away from everyone else is regarded by many as a myth. So what happens when the theory is put to the test?

The New York Times envisions version 2.0 of the newspaper - The New York Times Co.’s research and development group has some of the best views in their midtown skyscraper — 24 floors above the newsrooms, higher even than the executives’ suites. Developers in the core R&D group — with titles like “lead creative technologist” and, my favorite, “futurist-in-residence” — are charged by the brass 14 floors below them with anticipating how news will next be consumed.

Non Profit Website Design: Examples and Best Practices - Non profit websites share many of the same best practices as any website. They need to be user friendly, easily navigable, and use appropriate fonts, colors, and other design elements. But often a non profit website needs to offer more than your typical corporate site. A non profit’s website needs to make it easy to find out more about their cause, to donate money, and to become more involved. It needs to make it easy for media contacts to find the information they need and the contact information of key personnel. And it needs to do all this in a way that’s inviting to the organization’s targeted donors and/or volunteers.

All you need is a mobile phone and you can build what’s essentially a GPS network of friends, without the need for GPS technology. Wondering whether your buddy Jim is still at work? Just log onto Google Latitude, or check Google Maps on your phone, and sure enough, Jim’s icon shows up on the map where he works. Did your best friend go missing after her date the other night? This is the time of year when the best games are lining store shelves in mass quantities, the console manufacturers are putting together the best hardware deals of the year, and all the guns are ablaze in the glorious console war.

If you’ve been around the blogsphere for a while you probably noticed the never ending “make easy money with blogging” myth debunking festival. Seems like no one is missing the opportunity to debunk the same myths over and over again, some raised the issue to a crusade level, writing about it again and again on the same blog numerous times.

At some stage, it sounds like bloggers are trying to defend their turf, discouraging new bloggers from entering the field in a professional way, thinking they are guarding their status and income. There are two main problems with that line of thought.

One, all those myths that are being debunked don’t really exist. I doubt there is any substantial number of web users thinking blogging is the key to fortune. Those who do are either talented enough to not be moved by debunking articles or those who are ignorant enough to never be successful.

The second problem is that by raising the issue over and over again, some people conclude that there is a hidden interest behind those articles, other than explaining the real difficulties behind running a successful blog. To add sin on sin, most bloggers do not explain any of the real life difficulties, but make do with brief unexplained statements that do not shade light on the real efforts that go behind every blog post.

Next time you are going to debunk a “blogging myth”, make sure this myth really exists, and make back your debunking with real substance. Writing it is or isn’t so, is not enough.
