If you travel a lot, you probably recognized the high cost of international roaming charges. When you rely on your mobile phone for both calls and data (internet access) while on the road, the cellular bill may add up to a substantial amount. One of the easiest and most convenient solutions, especially if you travel a lot to the same locations, is to get a local prepaid SIM card. A local SIM card will allow you to make local calls at local rates, and in many cases, international calls at much cheaper rates than the international roaming charges.
A prepaid Switzerland SIM card is the most convenient and economical calling solution while traveling to Switzerland. With a local SIM card you get free incoming calls across Switzerland which is already a big plus over using your foreign phone number. Pay the local rate for local calls and use a cellular phone in Switzerland like you do at home. And unlike home, your SIM card and cell phone service is prepaid so there is no need for an on going monthly contract.
You can get a prepaid SIM card at any carrier shop, in the case of the Zurich airport, you will find two shops at the airport mall (just outside the terminal). If you enter the airport mall from the arrivals terminal, you will find the Swiscomm shop on the right and the Sunrise shop on the left. I can’t recommend on any specific company, you can go to both and choose the better plan or just choose one of them on the fly as I don’t believe there is a big difference when it comes to rates. When getting the prepaid SIM card, you can also get one of the available prepaid mobile phone for a one time fee, which will enable you to have a local number and still keep your own phone number active.
