Smashing the Opponent

It’s been a few days since this song got stuck in my head and now I listen to it 10, 20, 30 times a day. Obviously I thought I should share it with all of you.

  • As many people noticed, a feature song in one of Apple’s distinguished TV commercials is a guaranteed path to success and fame. In most cases it’s justified as the choices are tasteful and well … damn good.

If you remember the iPod Fatty Nano commercials, which featured the song “1234″, propelled Canadian singer Feist to international recognition.

The newest Apple MacBook Air TV commercial features a song called “New Soul” by the Israeli singer Yael Naim. It’s a perky-pleasant song with a matching perky-pleasant video (embedded below).

  • Vista’s speech recognition no jewel

This may be funny or this may be sad, but this is the state of speech recognition in Windows Vista.

Speech recognition was never perfect, some products are better than others. While some fail miserably others can definitely do a good job with proper training. Microsoft’s integrated speech recognition in Vista is no jewel, it has a proper interface and correction options, soon you will understand why they are required.

Be aware! Some adult language… but I was holding my stomach laughing at some parts.

  • Free TV in your browser

The ChannelChooser website lets you watch various commercial TV channels on your computer screen. You can choose one of 70 currently available channels, more are being added or removed depending on their availability.

Some channels require Internet Explorer only an do not work on any of the Mozilla family of browsers, while it’s pretty disapointing, this issue is related to the stream providers and not the site itself.

Among other channels you can find: C-Span 1,2,3, BBC News, Reuters news, Bloonberg, Sci-Fi channel, MTV Overdrive, Music Plus TV, Police channel, NASA TV, Star Games, various adult channels and many, many more. One of the channels getting added right now is the Martial Arts TV channel .

  • Blu-ray title postponed

While high-definition DVD titles are already in most stores, the arrival of the first titles in the rival Blu-ray Disc format has been pushed back by a month and will only be available starting June 20. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment president Benjamin Feingold said his studio’s first batch of Blu-ray releases will be ready May 23.

The decision to hold off shipping Blu-ray titles to retailers comes several weeks after Samsung announced its first Blu-ray player wouldn’t arrive in stores until June 25, a month behind schedule. The first eight Blu-ray titles from Sony won’t ship until then, to ensure a coordinated launch. The first Blu-ray Disc titles from Warner Home Video are expected to arrive in stores around the same time, although no firm dates or titles have been announced.

The Sony Blu-ray Disc titles that are now slated to arrive in stores June 20 are:
    - Underworld Evolution
    - 50 First Dates
    - The Fifth Element
    - Hitch
    - House of Flying Daggers
    - A Knight’s Tale
    - The Last Waltz
    - Resident Evil Apocalypse
    -XXX

The titles Warner Home Video is about to release are still unknown.
